Help Astron vs 50m
I bought a variable astron power supply that did not have the two main caps in it, I was wondering if anyone new what kind of caps it takes do not have to be orginal, replacements that will work will be fine, looks like they were hooked in series.

I wouldn't think anyone would take a guess other than say they were electrolytic.
No real help there but a schematic would be very useful. However Clues to make a good guess would be the following: Bridge (or diode) rectifier part numbers...this would help with average and peak current limits into the filter caps. Overall output voltage and current rating of the supply. Transformer secondary open circuit voltage. Transformer secondary / Rectifier configuration. (there are a few different ones) Regulator headroom requirements. (this might be difficult) Hope that helps a little. |
Thanks Doug I thought maybe someone might have one and could let me know what to buy yeah they r electrolytic, I guess i could call the company, I am not so good at reading schematics I will put the link up if someone could help me out I would be greatfull I can see one cap says I and one says V but really don't know what that means.

C1 looks like 2200uF / 35V
Digi-Key has about 40 in stock that meet these values...you just have to pick which size. Search for capacitors, in stock, 2200uF, 35V C5 looks like 100,000uF / 25V Digi-Key has this one that has screw terminals: http://capacitoredge.kemet.com/caped...ALS40A104KF025 And two others that snap in to cct board. See, schematics are great for figuring things out. Good luck. |
Thanks for the help inside the case looks like there were two big caps hooked together because there is clamps at the bottome for two and there are wires that look like they would connect two together I can't see in the schematics were there are two 100,000 uf caps

I have an Astron VS50M with meters at my shop.
I will check the values in the morning and let ya know. Last time I had it open I don't remember there being a pair of 50kuf's in there. |
Ok thank you

Schematic shows just one 100,000uF.
Einric, some pictures would help...worth a thousand words. :) |
NP, I will bring my camera to work with me.

Will Post Pics Later.
The Main cap is.... Phillips 100,000uF 25V, 30Vsurge -10 - +75% 85deg C. 3186ED104U025AMA1 |
