I am using a wideband power amplifier model 7602 from Krohn-Hite for a project.
The input to the amplifier is a 1MHz,10Vpp,square wave ,50% duty cycle from a signal generator(hp 33120A).The meter select option of the wide band amplifier is set at peak volts so that the largest peak output voltage independent of polarity is displayed. Now when the gain of the amplifier is set at 20dB,the display is 60 which is as expected. But when I change the duty cycle of the input wave from the signal generator to 30%,the amplifier display increases to 70.6 Why is this happening?According to my understanding a change in duty cycle of input should not change the output amplitude. Can anyone please explain this to me? Thank You |

I am not sure what meter you are using, but many meters average the readings. As such, changing the duty cycle will change the apparent peak voltage due to this.
