Default Tek 2465 four channel 300mhz scope

So Last week I was browsing for no apparent purpose and I spot this Tektronix 2465 with about 2 minutes to close at $149.xx. The photo shows a super bright wide unfocused sine wave trace and the item description says, "trace intensity control does not work". So I think, well, I'm not going to let that guy have that for under $150 so I wait until 12 seconds left then type in $152.58 and hit enter twice. I ended up getting it for $152.49. It came with a Tek rack mount too.

So it got here yesterday and I plug it in and the CRT flashes irratically and there is no sweet spot anywhere to get a usable trace. So I opened it up this morning and pulled the pot out of there and it turns out I used to live next door to a guy who worked for tek and he had given me a bunch of pots and misc. stuff. So I check and sure enough I got the right one. Same part number, the works. So I put the new one in and it's like brand new. Four sharp clean traces, no wierd noises or smells. One of my best scores off Eflea ever. I think after I sell my old (perfect) 453 and the rack mount I'll break even.

Turns out the pot took a hit. One of the other pots across the bottom of the screen has a slightly bent shaft so next time I take a hankering to open it up, I'll see if I got that one too.

Makes up for a speaker I got hosed on a few weeks ago.

Yeah, I think so. I guess the 2465B was the last. They say it sold new in '89 (maybe?) for $17000. This one is stamped on the chassis as late '86. I don't know what the differences are. The panel layout seems the same. The B was a 400mhz scope but that makes little or no difference to me. All my probes only go to 100mhz. A certified shop charges $150 to go through it and certify it but with these I think Tek set it up to be calibrated by the technician From what I've seen on Eflea the asking price for a certified 2465 is about $1200. This one doesn't have the handle because it was removed for the rack mount, and I'm not sure if the newer ones had the rear compartment for probes etc. I don't think so because there are no holes for latches etc. The big surprise is how much less bench depth it takes up. I've always run the 453 on a swivel base bolted to an upright on the bench. This one will slide right in next to the other stuff.

Hey Thanks Cowboy! No, I meant the straight 2465! The B model is still way out of sight. If I had picked up a B for $150 I would be headed to the casinos for some table work tonight!

Tektronixs is a big employer in the Portland area. (or was, now they make them in Taiwan) When I knew this guy he was about 35 or so and had worked there since he was 18. He ran a warranty bench. He knew I was a Ham so he just walked over one day and handed me a couple small boxes of parts. The shame of it is I've used some of those 5K pots in other projects!!. No more. Gotta conserve. I got every trimmer and pot they used in that series of scopes and some chips too.

I worked for a project engineer from Texas when I was with Alyeska (The Alaska Pipeline). He didn't go by anything but Cowboy. Even high level meetings. It was his company email address, everything. I think they used it on his paychecks. Turned out his name was something like Norwood Scrofus or something real similar. They pulled him out of retirement several times because he could just get-it-done. Great guy.

Thanks again for the file. Mine is a no suffix 2465 but we'll see what applies.
