I'm glad the POS lamp I've been using finally broke at the clamp. Who makes a good lamp that is easy to position and stays where you want it? I'm looking at a number of $100 or so lamps at the Walmart site and they all look like the crappy one I'm throwing out. Alternatively, has anyone made a support structure, I could re-use the lamp portion. Looking for something with a low aggravation factor...

I bought a lamp made by Daylight (it has a fluorescent with a daylight phosphor). The main thing it has is a 7" lens. Yes, 7"! Seems fine, but it comes as standard with a screw clamp, so you need to order a proper screw-on base as an accessory. I don't know if Daylight distribute in the US...

here's a few options
McMaster-Carr Heavy-Duty Magnifier Lamp - BLICK art materials Magnifying Lamp with 5 inch Diameter Inspection Lens if you don't need it immediatly, craigslist, yard sales, goodwill, etc. although these are very hit or miss. i bought a Dazor brand floorstanding with wheels for $50 off local craigslist. jim

I have this lamp:
Flourescent Magnifier Lamp | Distributed By MCM | 21-935 (21935) It has a metal clamp and nice metal base, decent brightness. It's very maneuverable but tight enough to stay in place when you have it where you want it. I have used the type that has the cheap plastic clamp base and this is much better. I would say it is decent quality for the price. |
