To make a long story even longer...errrr....short, I had a soldering iron go bad on me and my DIY side took over. I want to convert the iron to a hot air tool. The part of the iron that went bad was the heating core. I got some more nichrome wire but it's obvious that wrapping a non-insulated wire around a metal tube is going to defeat the purpose of the winding. My question is: is there any kind of plastic or other material anyone can suggest to help me insulate the winding from the metal? I think the origional winding was protected by some kind of ceramic, which would be tricky to work with.
