Yes, the project is progressing. I am putting together a few units for beta-testing, probably send one or two out next week.

I have completed the calibration procedure to set the accuracy and to adjust for flat frequency response out to 100kHz.

You need a signal source and a reasonable accurate AC multimeter, but for signal source you can use your sound card.

When the beta-testing turns out OK I will start up the Kickstarter, probably next January.

I am using a Scarlett 2i2 from Focusrite, which a lot of people use and is often rated as one of the best for audio measurements. I think the going price is $ 150 or so.

Not really; not functionally, not performance-wise.

Well I meant out of the preferred for audio measurement sound cards.

A Sound Blaster 16 wouldn't do.

If it is as good as the EMU0404, all sound cards that came later (with the exception of the Lynx) are worse. If you search this site, you will find some informative threads with measurements.
