Default Dull punch?

This punch looks a little dull to me. I can get it for $20. It's a Greenlee (comes with die and screw as well). Should I get it or should I look for a sharper one?

Also, can you sharpen them?

Been a LONG time since I used one of those, but yes, they get dull with use. The cheap, off-brand imitations would show signs of dullness after only a dozen uses or so; the genuine items lasted much longer in the shops where I worked.

If you understand how the shearing action of these tools is supposed to work, it's probably worth the effort to attempt sharpening them. (Hint: DO NOT use a file or sharpening stone on the outer cylindrical surface!) A diamond paddle- or rod-style hone may do the trick. I'd also look at the opening of the mating die, to make sure the entrance has a sharp, square edge. As with the punch, do not file or hone the curved surface.
