Anyone familiar with repair of the Bruel & Kjaer 1607.
I have to thank UPS for this.

The front was damaged. I managed to pull the front
plastic window and try to straighten it out and
and get keep the knob and indicator from rubbing.

The Center Frequency knob was broken and I think
the central tuning shaft is bent or twisted as it sounds
like a harmonic rub. Like you would rubbing your
fingers around the rim of a wine glass.

From inside the unit i hear it. It chould be the main bearing
or the shaft in the bearing. The nut around the main shaft
front panel was lose and didn't have a washer on it, so
I think someone might have attempted to service it.

I removed the shield from the center tuning pots and have
a question about them. Are these pots safe to use a deoxit D5/D100
and then a shot of deoxit MCL, 5 or 100?

or

A Solution of Iso, Iso and H20.

I wasn't sure about the caps in the unit I have
as some look different from the pics than the ones I've seen.

Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

Also, a source for a new front knob.
Pics will follow.

Here is the front with the panel and knob removed.

I cleaned up the scale where I could.

Just push the center of each the tab from the rear,
take your time and move around the rim a little
bit at a time. :

Here is the area of rub harmonic (finger on rim of wine glass)

This is the center protected turner. Multi part shaft
goes through the center of the enclosed area.

All the way at the front, is the inside nut (can't see
due to the tuning reduction wheel) but it is along the
case in front of the wheel.

Cap question, are these the caps that came stock
in the BK1607 or have some been replaced with
others?

yes, those are the stock caps and do not need to be replaced.

Pots can be cleaned with deoxit just fine. Dont use it on the caps, though.

Where did you buy it and did you get it for a good price? They are rare and sometimes hard to find.

Can you take and post a better picture? I don't want to open mine up right now and I would like to get a sense of the internal circuit values. As is I think its limited to about -150 dB harmonics with a 2.5V input due to noise.

Reverse engineering it to figure out the harmonic test mode would be really interesting since it flattens the response at the harmonics, no correction factors needed.

i CAN TAKE a good pic with my Sony, I just don' thave any way to get it in the puter.

The Iphone is great, but the pics are about 50 percetn fuzzzy.

Yeah, I got it on the flea. Been loonking for one that mught have
some dings or what have you and then, just like t hat there she was.

Price wasn't a steal but fair for what it is, 70. I hope that is a good
price for these. and then I have to get some money back to fix it.
Wiated about 6 months before the right one at the right price came up.
I felt that was a good price considering what most of their other goes for.

Also there is no whay I could make that.for anywhere near that price.

AND

There are the hoarder around here too. I picked up my HP339a from one.
I drove there to pick it up andmeet the guy, hoarder yeah. I demanded
the center ring for two of the knobs, nicely the boss has his son to take
me out back....We went into one of their four or five shipping containers
and walked through just checking out HP gear, stacked from floor to top of
box, from front to all the way to the rear hatch. Some really great stuff in there.

He's a guy I want to build a good relationship with, businesswise and same
for him too. We always want someone to buy stuff that isn't and a-s-s-hole.
and someone who can fix it too....won't take you away from the primary job.

Late, morning come earlier here in Tejas then Cali or Canuk land.

Ciao
