If the sled mech has sintered bronze bearings running on polished guide rails, just a couple of drops of very light machine oil works, soaks into bearings and doesn't migrate - important not to use much at all. For plastic traverse gears and racks, plastics grease like Molykote EM30L is commonly spec'd by manufacturers, again, critical not to use too much, just a few small dabs of it, normal gear operation will spread a thin coating. If the player has a gear driven traverse (not a linear motor), important for gears to smoothly mesh without binding anywhere, or the machine will be blessed with random playability problems due to a sticking optical sled. Can be tested by removing traverse motor from gear train and operating sled slowly by hand, feeling for any change in mechanical resistance.
