XLR switch

I am looking for a device that would allow me to send a mic input into it and allow me to pick and choose what line output to send it to. The reason I need this is that I have 5 rooms and want to send a mic signal to 5 seperate in ear monitors but not all at once.

Typically the output of an mic with a XLR connector is rather low. It needs to go into a mic pre-amp to boost it's signal level. Mic pre-amps are sort of expensive, some most people connect the mic to the pre-amp and then switch the output of the pre-amp.

But on the other hand if you don't need very high quality if it's just for talkback than 6x2 rotary switch will do the job. It might be necessary to lift ground at some of 5 lines to avoid hum...
You can also use 5 double relays.

With an XLR balanced circuit, all the pin 1's connect to the chassis.

Pin 1 is connected to the chassis only if you connect it. So as I told it might be necessary to lift ground at some of lines to avoid hum. Of course there is another solution. To use 5 isolating transformers.......but it is expensive idea.

I think that pin 1 will be the least of the problems.
With-out a robust amplified output, switching from 1 to 5 loads on/off will affect all the other loads.

In any case I would connect all the shields to the switcher chassis and only lift an individual shield at the receive end if I had a strong reason for doing so.

What you need is an audio DA. -Distribution Amplifier. They can be found used easily. Some models have switchable mic/line inputs. Not all have on/off functions for each output, in addition to level control, but some do.
