In the August issue of AudioXpress there was a good artical about calibrating a Hickok 539 series tester. This info also applies to other Hickok models. As an owner of several Hickoks, I found it quite interesting. You can read and download it here:

"Way back when" Audioxpress or maybe it's .....
predecessor Audio Amateur also had at least one construction article on building a "bogey tube" for Hickoks, that was in essence a high voltage current sink that you could plug into the tester, set up for a certain tube and then calibrate the sets meter. I made them up for a few different meter ranges but, dang, cant find either them or the original article.

O yeah, the fellow that wrote the article also made and sold these little units separately - and supplied a PC board and kit of parts that you could build into an octal plug.
