Default Cviller's F5c

Could someone please give me a basic ideal psu description if building the F5c ? What I need to know is how much capacitance is needed, also the transformers Va. and voltage ratings. I have enough cap's for 180,000uf @ 50v and could probably purchase a 600 Va transformer... Any help would be greatly appreciated ! Thank's

Hi Thor,
How hard are you planning on biasing it and what voltage? A normal F5 is ok with 300-400 VA toroid and 8x22mF caps.

I'm not really sure as my heatsinks are rated at 0.28 c/w per channel or side. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. I would like to use the cascode option though.

I cannot remember the exact requirements, but with that sink, you will not be able to push it much beyond stock F5 bias and voltage (unless you install a fan).

What kind of construction details are you looking for? I guess you can find some of the info you need here:

And you can also get inspiration here: (basically the same layout)

Cviller, Thanks for the quick reply ! I have all of your pcb's F4, F5, and F5c. My I'm not sure as to which one to build as I'm looking for 60 wpch or better @ 4 ohms. Can't find a lot on the F4 or the F5c which is the one I hope to build. My heat-sinks are 0.26 c/w and I plan to use copper heat spreaders... My transformer is a Antek AS-4218 2x18v @ 400Va And the psu caps are 40v 15,000uf x 12. I plan to use 6 each per channel via Chipamps.com's psu pcb's giving me a total of 180,000 uf ! Any help instrumenting a build based on this info would greatly help..... Thank-you

If I were you, I would probably build a double output F5 aka F5 Turbo. If you have not built amps before, you should probably take your time to read through the F5 Turbo thread and read the article by Nelson Pass.

Here is a link for the Heat-sinks I have, what would be a good bias point to shoot for if using two per side ? Don't forget I plan to use 0.25 x 2.0 x 4.5 copper heat spreaders to mount the mosfets on. See Link > http://www.newark.com/h-s-marston/938sp-02000-a-200/heat-sink-extrusion/dp/08WX9554

With those, I think you should aim for stock F5 bias.
