how about trying to project with a test image... a thin sheet of paper or something with known-uniform blackness all across?

After considering optics to be an issue i took note that when a white screen is displayed the brightness is very uniform and does not reveal any hot spotting.
Is it at all poisible that the pixles them selfs could have faded some how?
If it isnt that then the only other logical answer would be faulty circuitry....... although like stated before if it was circuitry id expect a specific sharp chang at one point? am i wrong in assuming this

*solid colors generly look uniform across the screen..... tints of solid colors ... ex dark red pronounce the defect

Maybe your reds have started to go. Did you ever overheat that side of the panel? Are all the grounds hooked up like they used to be when it was a regular display? Maybe a too-distant ground could be the problem or noise in the red line????
