Default How to connect cable tv to projector w/ sound

Hello Everyone, I am new to this realm of projectors and could really use some basic help understanding. I just purchased my projector(sure beats my plasma) and would like to connect my tv cable to the projector and surround sound. I thought I knew what I was doing and purchased a tv tuner and now am stumped on how to hook it up correctly. I would like everything to be run from my surround sound(thats how everything else is hooked up) so I dont have to run more wires to and from the projector itself. Anybody have any suggestions???

without telling us what kind of projector you bought, or what kind of surround sound system, you won't get the right answers..

assuming you bought a new commercial projector, i would go with the DVI or HDMI input to your projector if your satellite cable or regular cable box has dvi or HDMI output. (this will give you digital quality channels properly displayed)

component woudl be the next best thing...........

for sound. Fiber Optic is considered the best i think..

Cheap solution for non-digital cable:

Use a vcr to convert the signal to composite, then interface it with the projector/sound system

Default Thanks

Thanks for the help. I have a Panasonic PT-AE700E for the projector, a cheap surround sound system by RCA which has the DVD player within the receiver. I dont have a cable box because I dont have digital cable, but maybe I need one anyway(I just have the basic cable package, I dont care to watch alot of TV just a show or two here and there). I bought the tuner, VeiwSonic NextVision N4, to hook up a "monitor" to an existing system. The monitor would be the projector in place of a LCD or plasma monitor. I could hook it all up through the VCR but then I have terrible picture and sound. But maybe that the price I have to pay to watch the news. Let me know if there is anything else I can do.

your view sonic has got audio output with remote control. this is your options..

1..connect a small thin cable to the viewsonic soundoutput then to your surround unit.

2..get a very long vga cable and attach it to your projector. and place the viewsonic next to the dvd/surround.

in the first option u will loose sound quality and in the second video quality.

the only other option would be to place the pj, viewsonic and surrond sound all together. ........good luck

It looks like your tuner has a bnc style RF input from the picture on ...

http://www.viewsonic.com/products/tv.../nextvisionn4/

if it does then you need to try and find a female f type (screw on coax cable ) to male bnc adaptor. They should only be a couple of bucks.
( see http://www.philmore-datak.com/Page%2047.pdf its # 960 in that pdf file )

You hook your Cable tv cable to the female f type end and then the bnc to your Viewsonic tuner. You would then be able to run the left and right audio from your Viewsonic tuner to your surround sound and either the s video or vga cable to the projector. VGA would give you better video quality but s video would be cheaper if you have more than a ten foot run from the tuner to the projector.
