Default Diy Sharp Cable Question

Hows it going everybody - Heres my question - I've got an Asis sharp 1200 coming that i want to test. I have the "Panel Paranoia" thread that discusses the construction of the sharp cables. I just wanted to ask 3 questions. First, ive heard that sometimes you have to use a computer cable to get a signal, and then select video in to get a signal from a composite in. If this applies to my model, the standard sharp pinout diagram will work, correct?

Maybe a better question is, does uvodee still sell the cables?

Or maybe a best question is, is there a way around having to do this - is there some way to navigate the menu without getting a signal in first?

I have no experience with any of this stuff, so go easy on me.
Thanks for any help.

Sean
