Hi,
I have a CTX EzPro 550 that I'm fixing/converting. I've ordered an LCD to replace the current LCD. I now have to sort out the power for the bulbs. It uses Halogen 36V bulbs. I don't know if it's easier/cheaper to work out a power method for those, or just to convert it to Metal Halide. I haven't seen any guide around on this (please link me if there is), but as I understand you need a ballast as well as the bulbs? I'm a little confused on the whole topic. What voltage do they run off? Cheers, Spode |

It's only 6.4"? I thought it was bigger than that.
But it's broken, hence changing out the LCD. What's a UHP lamp? Are you saying you have the entire right hand side of the unit? The bit that powers the bulbs etc? And it's going spare (i.e I could buy it??) Spode |

I have the same model at home.
Is it worth the effort of getting a new LCD and a new power supply??? I think you better go for the MH conversion. In my case I try a double endend 150W MH lamp. I use it just for a couple of minutes and it seems to work. To do it well you may need to replace the spherical reflector to one wich focus matches the center of your lamp (the right thing would be to change de condenser lens too...but in my case I donīt have a condenser, just a borosilicate glass). While doing it, the new reflector lens surely wonīt fit in the original case, so you fill find to modify it too. If you can get the lamp that uses YWH maybe you wonīt need to make any case mod, as it seems to be much smaller than a common 150W MH one. |

In this kind of lamp, about 20% of its 400W goes to light, the other 80% finishes as heat If you use a discharge lamp like a metal halide one, 80% goes to ligh and only 20% to heat (aprox.). Thats why the natural change will be to replace the 400W halogen with a 150W MH one. Old projetors, like Epson ELP-3000, uses MH ones. An evolution of the MH lamp is the UHP lamp. UHP goes for Philips lamp development of this technology, another brands may use a different name (may be UHE I think). Between MH an UHP lamps are some technical diferencies like startup condition, frecuency that they run (UHP may work with CC while MH only with AC). But the most important difference is the arc gap lenght, as smaller is better, UHP has smaller arcs (point light source). If you need, I have the voltages that the power supply gives to the mainboard, so you can build your own. It is very easy. |

I can also share the pinout for the VGA input, It was given to me by one member here.
It would be useful If you can change the subjet to something like "Metal Halide Conversion for CTX EzPro 550". This will speed up searches to other members. |

you projector has three video sources, c. video, S-Video and VGA.
The VGA input doenīt has the common mini DB15 connector, so you need its pinout if you donīt have the cable in order to build it yourself. |

Ah!
That is the least of my worries right now :P I have the cable if anyone needs it. As far as I can tell, the electronics in my projector are screwed. I'm pretty much going back to basics with it. |
