1, what is the difference between SHP and UHP lamp and are the Metal Halide lamps
SHP was made of PHOENIX, UHP was made of PHILIPS, tha all are extra-high-pressure mercury vapor lamp.same!

2, MH can not run ballast, that is a E-transformer,so can not do it.

So If I was to get a separate ballast and MH, how would I fool the projector into thinking that there is a new lamp installed as it won't power up without a lamp. Also is there alternative lamp I can use straight on without adding ballast and stuff?. And finally is the brightness/lumen output going to be the same from a MH hti 150 as the 150W SHP lamp?

Sorry to resurrect an old thread.

Id'like to do the conversion on a ctx ezpro 500 but i didn't understant some things.

How can the power section that feeds the 36v halogen lamp be removed/bypassed , i mean if i remove the halogen part of the circuit will the lcd part of the projector still works fine or some fail safe device will prevent it from power itself on?

My other questiion is about UV filtering, is it really needed?

Is the osram powerstar hqi 250w the best lamp for the conversion?

Are there any safeti issue (beside the ones that are dictated by common sense when working with electrical devices)?

Thanks in advacne to all for the help.

you can not use the 36v power, you have to use the 220v power, from the socket.
there is a relay on the board, A device that responds to a small current or voltage change by activating switches or other devices in an electric circuit. you can contact this relay to control the new ballast.
or set other switch to control the new ballast.

dont bother the UV filtering.

hqi 250w is too bigger.

The power supply module has a connector for the LCD module at the other side of the box.

I hast ground, 12v, 5v, I donīt remember if it has negative voltage terminal.

It also has a feedback terminal, when the projector is off there is 0V, and when its on it has 5V. Thats the signal that when the LCD is on turns on the lamp.

So you just have to replace the power suply module with one of your own.

You can measure those voltages yourself, and build then your own power supply. If you are lucky you can get an electronic HQI ballast that fits in the box.

I wonīt have Internet at home for at least the next to weeks. Ask me again if you want a picture of my projector with it voltages explained.

Thanks for the reply. If i understood correctly i can just remove the power section for thje halogen lamp and use only the control relay to power on off the ballast (that is connected to the 220v).

Which is the best metal halide lamp that is suggested for this conversion?

Can the ballast be hidden inside the projector case or must be put away from the lcd circut?

Thanks to all i need to undestand if the halogen lambp has it's own power supply inside (controlled by the main one) an that canbe removed to make space for the ballast or if the power for the 36v lamp is provided by the main power supply and it will prevent the unit from poer itself on if the halogen circuit is removed. Pics would be relly apreciated .

Plus i need suggeston on the best bulb / ballast combination.

Thanks again
