Default Innovatek 007VG 7" or HAMI 8001 8" ? 16:9 or 4:3 ?

Hi,

I m between Innovatek 007VG that has a 800x480 physical resolution and is 16:9 format, and a HAMI 8001 that has a 800x600 physical resolution and it is in a 4:3 format.

Now my main question is which one is better for watching DVDs? Because when I m watching a DVD at my PC monitor (a TFT 15") there is an area of black pixels from the top and the bottom of the screen in order to make the 4:3 apear as 16:9. So it is like I have a smaller monitor

So comparing these two, a 7" playing 16:9 at full screen mode with an 8" playing 16:9 by converting from 4:3 mode, (remember 8" resolution is better than 7") which one is better at the end?

Thanks

Athan

It all really depends on personal prefrence and what format the majority of your content is in. If you plan to only watch DVDs then the wide screen is probably ideal, if you plan on viewing much of anything else, it will probably be in 4:3 format and will have to be displayed with black bars on the sides and will appear smaller on the 16:9 aspect ratio. (4:3 on a 800x480 lcd will only use 640*480)

You just need to figure out what you need, but read on...

"remember 8" resolution is better than 7""

- not exactly true in terms of resolution, both of these monitors have 800 lines of vertical resolution so they are the same in this regard. the diffrence is the horizontal res of which the 4:3 has an additional 120 lines. This diffrence in the 4:3 probably gives you the extra diagonal inch in size. Whith this, playing 16:9 content on both monitors will actually probably be the same size. So it all comes down to if you want the extra 120 lines for 4:3 content or not.
