now that sounds like a possibly good idea! I just wanted to interject a comment about the heat of the light engine:

i noticed just now that the fins on the body are pretty shallow... can you machine or saw out the depth of the fins, for a greater radiating surface?

I could have done that and it would have increased the cooling capacity but the extra cost of the material was too much. These were cut off ends from other projects.

Aluminum is not really cheap in machinable type sizes. But it looks like it won't matter anyway since the bulb is going to be moved up into the throut of the parabolic reflector to get it into the area of a 220mm condenser fresnels focal point.

I will be making a more open type of bulb mount that will cool better and have a cheap spherical reflector. This assembly will sit inside of the big reflector and the big parabolic reflector will be retained for a light recycling experiment to see if the overall light output can be increased and if the combined light of a short FL bulb and condenser fresnel combined with a longer FL reflector will cause any loss of definition in the projected image.
