Default Going for a big (20" panel +) DIY LCD projector

Thought I might make a thread to concentrate thoughts on making a large (20" LCD panel or bigger) DIY projector. Payoff here if done right would be a projector with at least 1600x1200 resolution, which costs $15,000+ commercially. This seems like a bigger potential payoff ratio than a smaller res projector. Problems as I see them:

1) Finding a 20"+ LCD panel that will cooperate (disassemble well)

2) Finding a triplet style lens that can see the entire field of the 20"+ LCD panel

3) Finding a big fresnel or similar light collecting device (maybe some type of mirror, like from a real optics company i.e. melles-griot/thorlabs/etc) that is matched in focal length to the triplet.

4) The usual light source / thermal issues (only on a somewhat bigger XY scale now).

It seems like this could be done for an equipment cost of around $2000.00 plus a lot of time. Considering the possible ultra high res result, it could be worth it. Any experiences / comments about trying to make a large LCD panel projector would be appreciated. I'll keep you posted on progress. My first step is just getting the lighting/lens/everything but the panel working (will just use transparencies or something similar to test for image distortion acroiss the field / etc).
