I'm interested in giving building one of these a go Looking at projectors available for reasonable money, I can find a few different types. Hence I'm looking for advice on what lens and lamp power I should look for.

The lenses seem to be either 55mm or 75-120mm. What's the pros/cons of each?
Bulbs 250w -- should I go for a certain fitment that can be replaced with a more powerful one?

Out of these models, which is best for modding?

S-AV2000 (metal)
S-AV2050 (metal)
S-AV1050 (plastic)
Carousel S (metal)

Cheers

Ok, I've won an ebay auction for a slide projector for 1$ + 32$ for shipping (yes, I paid the shipping 32 times the projector!). Now I need only the lcd. What do you think about this?
Could it be the right one? We don't have anything here in Italy like the hipgear, so I think i've got no choice. It will cost me 38$+35$=73$. It's not so cheap I think... Any advice?

Ok, I wasn't right thinking It would have been a game. I don't even have the projector and I've already got problems with it. The projector is from 70s and it needs dfh or cza lamps wich are very very expensive and lasts just 25 hours. I need a solution cause I don't want to spend a fortune in bulbs. Is there the possibility to change all the light stuff? Lamps are 500watt
Thanks

Default Pictures!

Ok folks! I have my unit assembled and working. I gotta admit - this is pretty awesome for $40. Picture does show the pixels but adjusting the focus a bit helps - and you get used to it pretty quick.

The first pic shows the circuit boards out of the ScreenPad and connected to a DVD player. The backlight was still on so I could test it.

This one shows the projected image from a side angle. My pictures were not as clear as I hoped - the projected image is quite a bit better than these shots...

Here is a better shot - I had the image sized at about 3.5 feet. Tried it at 5 feet and still looks pretty good (for $40 anyway!). The chair on the left should give you an idea of size.

Here is a another image shot. These were alos takne in the day. My patio doors are closeby and I closed the blinds but it was still fairly bright in the room. This projector throws a fair amount of light.

Here's the completed unit, on top of my DVD player. Still need to enclose some electronics but making progress.

And for a peek inside, here it is with the cover off...
