Default will this work and is it worht it?

is the below image a viable way to make a smaller enclosure? I am thinking of using a 15 inch monitor but 9" plus mounting seems to big. In mathematical terms it should be slightly less than 30% smaller in regards to length and height if I make everything 45 degrees . I understand that in reality this is going to be lessened but by how much do you think? is this viable or over complicated? are there any better variations? such as putting both the lenses next to the LCD?

I know this is a DIY forum and I should build it to find out. but I like to know before I build. aren’t I exiting

anyway what do you folks think you think?

notes: any angle that looks at all like 45 degrees is, and, I apologies for the sloppiness of the drawing but I suk at artish things

looks like it could work. makes for a long looking projector. one think i notice is that you will need alot of first surface mirrors for this idea. they can get quite expensive since you'll need so many. you cant use regular mirrors....you will get what is called ghosting

When i look at it now i reolize that i could shorten it By moving the right fresnel to be right next to the LCD. this would alow me to remove the first mirror, move the light to where the mirror is, move the fan to where the vent is and shorten the PJ by about 20%

PS. no matter what my setup, I would only need to use front surface for the mirors after the LCD wouldent I? A gost of a lightsource or paralel light dosent realy mater that much, right? i dont realy know these things

Look for YWH's last thread... his new design is very similar. A few problems you'll encounter:

1 - Finding heat glass big enough for your placement. They dont make them that big... so your not going to find one.

2 - If this is your first attempt at making a box of your own your going to have a hard time lining up the optics and mirrors. Brainchild put it best when he said "if this is your first design stick with something simple and dont fold optics".

3 - Your going to have a hard time getting a square picture. This gets back to the second problem. If your not used to folding optics with your design your going to have a hell of a time lining everything up so you get a square and evenly lite picture.

You'll have a much easier time making the unit stand upright instead of flat. You only have to use one mirror and the box will have a very small footprint (smaller then ANY 7" project currently being made).

And remember, you MUST use first surface mirrors... NOT regular mirrors like DIYLABS will tell you. No projector or projection tv IN THE WORLD uses regular mirrors.

OK, a complete noob question. why not just do a straight shot from the light to the heat glass, through the fressnels and LCd and out the lens, eliminating the mirrors all together?

Lol. coffey. the poing of his design is to make the enclosure smaller. Thats why everything is slanted and thats why he is using mirrors.

Of course he could do a straight shot like everyone else but that would be a bigger box.

I can use normal glass. a fan and the space between lcd and light should be suficiant (i hope)

i considerd it but i want it celing mounted. And even if i did i would only be able to iliminate one mirror due to the focal of the frense

noob PJ's do but even the great ACE admits that can use thin mirors for pre-image stuff

I hope this works

LOL imo jcb u realy are on drugs or what?lol

Its impossible to make a lcd projector using a 15inch lcd smaller then what you could make with a 7inch, even just using the 1 mirror, the 15inch lcd alone is about 4x bigger then the 7inch i have if not more, my design is nearly the size of a 15inch panel alone with the hieght of a shoe box, if u can fit a 15inch lcd, light , typical ohp frensels and all electronics into the same space then my hats off to ya.
