First off I'd just like to thank all of the contributors of information on this thread, I've learned so much!
Anyway, onto the projector Specs: (these may not be EXACT but they are very close) Sharp QA-1650 Projection panel, $175: Response- 30ms Native Resolution- 640x480 Contrast ratio- 1:50 3m 9200 OHP, $100: 3500 Lumens Double Bulb feature Screen, $0: Started as a light green wall, moved on to a large white sheet held up by thumb tacs I chose this panel for both the ease of use and relatively low price. My original choice for a projector was the 3m 9700 hundred (4300 Lumens) but due to high prices I went for the cheaper 9200. Wow, where do I begin! I am so incredibly amazed with the results I am getting!! Even with the light green wall the picture was very bright and watchable. I honestly cant tell how much the sheet improves brightness if any, but it does allow the colors to be more accurate(previously, whites were green!) My picture began at around 3'x4' which was very crisp and clear. However, I moved it all the way across the room(about 15' back) and low and behold, the picture was still as sharp and clear at an incredible size of ~7'x9'!!! This picture takes up my entire wall! Best of all, it is still extremely bright, especially in "daytime" films. I've played a little bit of Half-Life and Warcraft III, each working flawlessly-I cannot wait until the next LAN! Playstation works fine through my VGA adapter but works in only black and whit through the normal video input. Tonight a few friends and I celebrated Friday the 13th by watching Freddy vs Jason, a rather dark film. At first the colors were much to dark to watch, however upon turning the contrast of the moniter all the way up and also boosting the Nview (I use computer DVD with a Nvidia geforce3) contrast, the picture was just fine! Some mid-watching adjustment had to be done through the remote, but this did not interfere with the overall experience too much. I am EXTREMELY pleased with these results! After scrutinizing over the many pictures on the forum, I never expected anything of this quality! My original plan was to replace the Halogen bulb of the OHP with a metal halide to boost the brightness. This however, has proven to not be necessary-I still may do it though to increase my bulb life(50 hours at $10 each). All things taken into account, my room is in the basement with no windows or any ambient lightsource besides the OHP itself. This has proven to be very important;with the cieling light on, the image is hardly viewable. Just turn the lights off however and...WOW! I'll try to get some pictures up as soon as I can, I'm confident that everyone will be impressed! |
