Talking One more pic.

Here is a screen shot of my projection. My projected image was about 5 feet high so it was rather large....but as I mentioned befor it is a bit dim...I knew it would be because of my low lumen overhead projector. I will fix this next.

The image here is about 1.5 feet tall and is about 250 pixels(maybe a little less). You can see a screen door effect but it is not really visible from just a few feet back..

The biggest problem right now is the brightness and color...This should be remedied when I change out my bulb.

I bought the VG150 because it was supposed to be one of the best (at least for a 15" I could get cheap...Sharp and Hitachi have some GOOD monitors but I dont know if you can get an unobstructed view to the screen). However, I was not too impressed with the color on the monitor when I got it. I guess its becuase I'm comparing it to my really nice 20" CRT monitor (I suppose I shouldnt compare the 2). With the high contrast and quick response of the VG150 this should be a great projector.

Oh ya...this is displayed as part of a 1024x768 resolution screen. Again let me know if there are questions... and I will get back to you this afternoon or on Monday.

Good luck.
SuperDave

Default one more screenshot

Ok here is a VERY close-up screen shot....and yes I mean screen shot. This is only about 75 pixels wide and you can clearly see the screen-door effect. You are able to realy see the detail of the projection....and again I would like to state that the screen door effect really isnt visible a few feet back.

I'm sorry I dont have any full screen shots...my camera just couldnt take a good picture...It doesnt take pictures of non-bright objects more than a few feet away. I will try to get something soon.

Okay, guys. I need some help here. My projected image looks great on VGA(crisp, bright vibrant colours), but when i switch over to composite (i need composite for xbox and television) the picture is still very crisp, but the colours are all faded to the point that it almost looks black and white. It seems to me that i can fix the colour problem by buying a video to vga converter. Do you guys think that this would fix my colour problem?? Please help me out here, the colours on tv, xbox, and dvds(that is 90% of the reason i want a big screen) look so faded- like they are black and white. The picture quality itself is great, though, Its just the colours that are the problem.

If you guys think a vga converter will solve my colour problem, I have one in mind (recommended by snoogans).

Thanks for any advice!

Default Increase the color saturation control?

BodySuitMan

Did you try adjusting the color control on the panel?

Otherwise, the answer is a definite "maybe". The viewsonic VB50 box I have seems to render good colors on the 19" monitor I use.

Default Nice work!

Hey superdave, nice work!

I might be wrong but I'm actually pretty sure that the PCB you didn't know what it was is the driver board for the cold cathode lights! If I'm right then you should be REALLY careful not to touch it when running. It generates voltages that may be fatal. Yes, I am trying to sound like your mum.

Now that you start thinking about a new lightsource, I think you have to go HMI (basically=HQI). Furthermore you will have to build an "iris" to put over the bulb to make it more "pointlike".

Somebody asked about a lens of about f=400mm. I tried to mod my setup with such a lens (a huge Liesegang projection objective), but I couldn't get a sharp image, even though I adjusted the lamp/fresnel distance also. I think 400mm might be too far off the focal point of the fresnel, maybe I just didn't try hard enough, since my lamp was already built into the housing and thus the adjustment I mentioned before was somewhat limited. The VERY center of my image was perfectly focused, but the rest was unecceptable.
