Question CRT Projector

Is there any way to make a good quality projector from a CRT monitor? I can get cheap 17" monitors (1280x1024) and I have one that I would like to use to project movies onto a wall. Any way to do this for under $100?

Default can it be done?

for under $100?

yes, but the results will not be worth the effort and expense. a monitor cannot output enough brightness to project even a semi-decent image.

there's currently a thread somewhere on here that claims to have improved the output using a monitor/ fresnel setup, but i'd be skeptical....

I also have a cheap supply of 15" (1024x768) monitors, and was trying to think how to take advantage of the fact.

The only thing that I've come up with is to connect 4 of them to my computer with 2 dual VGA output graphics cards. You put 4 15" screens together and you got 30"... 9 and you get 45"

You could even get 6 and have a Super Wide screen setup with a ratio of 2 ;-) you'd have black bars on the left and right of the picture.

The only problem with this, is I am not sure what kind of software there is to play a movie that spans onto multipule monitors. I am sure it can be done, but Id do some reasearch to find out first.

I was thinking of adding 4 of these to my current computer to have 5 monitors. Would have my nice one in the middle and 2 on each edge. The middle one is set to 1600x1200, so it takes up a lot more virtual space. I just think it would be cool to have such a large desktop. Really nice for programming on because you can have so many windows showing at once. Plus it makes you look really cool and smart ;-)

cool AND smart? didnt realize it was possible.....

anyway, might give it a try if you can get them really cheap

might even be able to disassemble them some so you can have a smaller gap between them

Hi,

There is a way to make the DIY Projector with TV and Fresnel to get a pretty decent picture but the downside is that you have to open up the TV.

Then you will have to adjust the POT which makes the CRT output more lumens. Also, the contrast/brightness controls in the menu. But the POT in the TV works the best. Much more light output and picture is somewhat decent.

Ya and its also very dangerous overdriving a picture tube, and playing with serious voltage, that is what u didnt get told, even if u over drive a crt or tv it still wont be bright enough, u will just burn the thing out, tubes in crt projector are a different type of tube, these have a very high light output and are designed to project, fooling with tv's is dangerous, and as being used for a projector is useless, not trying to be negative guys but its dangerous stuff and it wont work.

If you have to ask about CRT circuits, you absolutely, positively, shouldn't be fooling around inside of them. In fact, without SPECIFIC professional training, no-one should. This is stuff that can really fry you.

Please don't post any links to places that discuss "how to"; we don't want to be even indirectly responsible for telling someone to do something unreasonably dangerous.

Yes, it is very dangerous. Please DO NOT ATTEMPT TO OPEN UP A TV OR MONITOR. Just make a LCD Projector or just buy one.
