I also have Compaq's MP1600 and it would seem I have the same problem, except that it appears after one hour of use. It doesn't seem to lose any of the main colors, but the outcome is like watching true color photos with 16 or 256 color palette.

The problem starts with flickering image at somewhere around 40 minutes of use, and it starts to flicker more and more until after 60 minutes it stays that way.

I bought another one for parts, so I have all the parts except the power source. Any suggestions what to replace first? I'd also be interested to know how to take this thing apart the right way.

Thanks.

Well folks, looks like I found the problem. The color sensor was covered by a thick layer of dust. To make sure, I threw in a new one, and looks like the good ol' warhorse is back in the game

Talking Thanks!!!!

Hey, just wanted to drop a note to you guys.. I'm glad I found this thread. I had bought an MP1600 used and got a good deal.. then about a month later - after using it for an hour or so, the colors would distort on the screen. Was afraid my good deal had turned into a bad deal... but after reading the posts on here... opened it up .. cleaned my color wheel.. and .. back in business.. !! Just wanted to say thanks..... saved me a bunch of money.!!!

Default I own a MP 1800 and i need a light source

Please help me on my quest for a good light source !
the mp1800 is like 1600 (very small and the light must be very well focused).

The original light source is a VIP lamp 120W,7500K,7000 lm and it can focus all the light in a 1 cm diameter hole(it don't have any optics to concentrate light on the colorweel)

i've tested a 150W halogen with a diapositive optics and i think this is the wrong approach
It has to be a good reflector, no optics
Is MSD 200//2 lamp any good?
and where can i find a good reflector(parabolic, very deep)
