Hi guys,
Why does the picture from my DVD become unstable when it tries to show a white screen? I can see a black nearly horizontal bar flickering at the top of the screen.

Is it only on the DVD player itself? Or have you found this to occur on other tvs as well??
It seems like perhaps the signal is too strong for the tv or something along those lines. I'm not very well educated in this area; however, I find that crazy high signal strength causes weird things of that sort to happen. Anyway, I think somebody more knowledgeable in the area of video signalling will have a good idea of what's going on... |

try playing with the freq/scan rate of the display device. I had this prob with my qa 1050, but it turns out all i had to do was adjust the hor freq.

Did you terminate the DVD video cable with a 75 ohm resistor?

Thanks for the replies.
It only happens with the Toshiba DVD (Best Buy) and my old Sony TV, but this is all I have. I use just the run of the mill 75ohm cables. As you can see, I'm more of an audio fanatic than a video fanatic. It's just an inconvenience when Neo goes through the door with the light behind it, or a there's a nucular explosion and the screen goes haywire. It make it hard to suspend disbelief.

I have exactly the same problem with my JVC DVD player and my old, old Sony TV. Another TV, a JVC (and much newer) doesn't have a problem with the video. I suspect the coupling capacitors in the vertical sync circuits are going bad.
Since my Sony is about 20 years old, repair is out of the question. I'll replace the old, reliable Sony.

It's just the heatsinks and transformers and caps I could buy with that money,... and speakers, don't get me started on speakers.

Time for another trip to Best Buy. That's where I got my JVC DVD player.
I just returned from a trip to Michigan. The Cadillac area. While there, I purchased a DVD player for my cousin (as a way of saying thanks for letting me stay in her home while I was visiting). The DVD player cost all of $43. from Best Buy!
