MiD, I originally took photos of the fresnel projector but it was so dark they barely came out, partly due to the camera aswell
Basically if you can afford £65, then go for LCD Projector

I've read a few threads. I doubt that I can make an LCD Projector for £65=120$, only the LCD alone will probably cost more. |

120 bucks isnt going to buy you an LCD projector! Period. FORGET those little 2 and 3" portable units I heard mentioned... waste of time! They arent even 640x480! Search the forum and read up. A decent very low end unit is going to run you anywhere from $3-400. Any less is a total waste of time.

Where can I find retail prices of the small-size LCDs (6"-8" which are good for DIY LCD Projector) from different brands?

The cheapest way to go to get an LCD is as follows .
-Go to an insurance compay . -Ask the lady/gentleman there , if they have any old laptops . Pay max $10 for one , and buy at least 3 . (These laptops will most probably be stuffed) -Go home -Do a bit of internet research on the piouts/power source etc . on the models you've got . -DO NOT pull the ribbon wire out the board and try to use it like that Cut the board on which the ribbon is connected to , and solder your cable onto that (Bypassing all components) Walla |

First and foremost, Welcome to DIY projectors!!!!! I too was burned with the fresnel and tv or moniter idea, it created one of the most horrible images i could imagine. I made a simple projector with a 15" LCD (my dad just gave me his old one when he upgraded) and i used a 400w MH setup, it was great for a while (but the size and quality still werent what i was looking for), the screen was 4 years old and only had 150:1 contrast ratio so it wasnt that it was DIY that made it bad it was the crappy screen that i had. But when using the 400w MH bulb and ballast, it dosent add very much to your electric bill at all, at most 100 or 200 kwh , its about the same as having 4 lamps turned on at once. I am currently gathering parts so i can buy the plans from ace_3001 so i can build his projector (his is amazing looking so far and he is using a 7" lilliput moniter that you can get on ebay and has a compressed resolution of 1024x768), this projector is so far costing me under $500 USD. Just thought i would add my 2 cents
