I used thin MDF sheet attatched to wall and painted matt white with a 5% mix of shiney grey then clear matt varnished.

ended up getting a 32" lcd for my room and am near completion on the theater room. Just an update for anyone who cared... I will post pictures when finished

I used a sheet of drywall painted white, before that I used
black out cloth, and at one time I used a white shower curtain black out cloth was the better screen - I also tried plastic bathroom paneling - black out cloth still did better |

I use what is called rubber backed blackout curtain material. Slightly stretchy so it is easy to stretch over a light weight frame. It has a slightly greyish/off white colour and works really well.
