Default Results With 400W MH Bulb?

Hey,

I just bought a Sharp QA-1650 with and ELMO HP-285P Overhead,it works fine as is, but the bulbs only last 50 hours each... So I was thinking that I would buy a metal halide ballast and bulb and use that... This is where I get confused... The current bulb in my projector is an FWL and is rated at 10,500 Lumens... but thats not what the PJ outputs, correct? The 400W bulb outputs 33,600 Lumens, so would I be correct in assuming that I would get 3 times the brightness? Also, I'm worried about heat issues.. If I modify an overhead with a MH bulb, will I need to add additional fans?

Thanks
Ben

Heat issues will definately be not a problem. MH bulbs are a lot cooler. But the 400watt MH bulb I saw is kinda huge. You might want to go for the 250 watt double ended mh bulb which gives out 22,000 lumens.

Thanks for the reply. Does a dual system like that cost more? I could only find one site with any information on my overhead, and it says it outputs 2,500 lumens.. where is so much of the light lost? Any info on this would be appreciated..

Thanks
Ben

the dual MH will cost you MUCH more unless you get lucky(like me )

every bulb is made to reach a specific output your was made to reach 2,500 there is light loss in almost every bulb.

echow is right heat wont be a problem...but with 400W it MAY be a problem,my 250WHQIis warm imagine how a 400W would be.
also the 400w is HUGE and wont be easy to focus all the lumens, if you plan to build a custom projector then its good but me im using my HQI in my OHP

ND...

YOu said that you have a HQI bulb?

Is it double ended and how much did it cost you for the kit?

Neo, you may want to check out www.diylabs.com because he sells 250 watt MH kit for $159.

Also, I just found out that the 400 watt bulbs comes in two sizes. First, I saw was one that is about 12" long, now thats huge. But then, I saw one just less than 6". Since that is not so big, I will be purchasing a 400 watt bulb with a ballast.

But always remember a 250 watt bulb will cost less to operate than a 400 watt bulb and also it will cost more for the kit.

Aw man!!!!I misread. But I found one that is 8.5", what is a MOL anyways? I think I might settle with that or the 250 watt double ended. FOr your bulb, was the bulb bright enough and was the whole lcd lit evenly because I just got a nec 1545v and only part of it is clear unless i focus it but then the other part of it is fuzzy.

Site is...http://www.1000bulbs.com/shopping/shopexd.asp?id=4586 and guess wat, the ballast is $40 bucks only
