Resetting the lamp timer on IN72

First of all, I am new to your forum so I apologize if I am way off topic here...

I have an Infocus IN72 projector and it just shutdown due to the lamp timer hitting the 3000 hour mark. I had purchased a lamp warranty with the proj but just found out it was a total scam and the company no loger exists (repairtechinc.com - bad, bad).

So, I am shopping for a new lamp and in the meantime I am wondering what happens if I reset the timer and run the proj with the orginal lamp for a while. The lamp has been working fine but I am concerned that their is a technical reason why the bulb should be replaced, like maybe the ciruitry provides a higher current to new bulbs or something that could end up damaging the power supply or other components.

Can I damage my proj by running a lamp past the rcommended 3000 hours?

You should be fine resetting the timer. Even if the projector did alter the current based on in72 lamp life, the worst that could happen in the lamp would burn out completely. A good projector should have a safety circuit with a fuse to prevent damage to any internal components. You should be fine.

You should be fine. Worst case scenario, the lamp will blow in a bang when its time is up. The first strike puts some much current into the lamp and it doesn't damage the power supply so a worn lamp couldn't draw as much current in normal operation. Besides, when the electrodes are worn, the arc gap will increase which will result in the lamp not striking. The fact that the lamp is still working, save the environment by using it till it dies. I have seen these IN70 series lamps to run over 6000 hours and that is no exageration.
