Hello,

I am a little bit confused when reading posting regarding the above terms.

Could someone please explain the meanings of (1) bypassing, (2) coupling & (3) decoupling.

I have seen conflicting descriptions of these terms and would appreciate any help.

I am interested in these terms related to power supplies and op-amps.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers

KevinLee:)

all these terms are related to capacitors:

bypassing is putting a smaller, but better quality (such as a MKP film capacitor) in parrallel with eletrolitics to improve the performance of them, this is usally cheaper then buying high quality eletrolytics

coupling and decoupling: capacitors are used to block DC voltage so only the AC voltage passes - this can be used in powersupplies but is almost always used in amplifiers to prevent damage from DC voltage to the speakers
