Rotel RCC-955 Problem

Hi, I'm helping this guy with this CD player (trying to figure out what's up) and here's basically the issue: I'll put a disc onto the tray, slide it back in, and then the trouble starts.

If I start the CDP cold, it'll wait a minute or two of CD play, then power cuts out completely. I can hear a faint but audible buzzing, which I located from the PSU board when running the amp open-case. After the first power outage, it takes a minute or two for the switch to do anything, then I can barely get the CD tray in before power cuts out again.

Does anyone know what the issue might be? The guy's suspicion, which I think might well be right, is that something warms up and then cuts out power, and the short time to die after the initial outage supports this idea.
