Nice one Nat!

I will try to get some pictures of my modified DP-1000 but doubt my crappy digital camera will be able to get very close.

Since my last post I've had the lid off again with a view to seeing what else could be uprated and found a 1000uf capacitor near to the DAC that seemed to be leaking.
I quickly replaced that with another Panasonic and, voila, yet another smoothing of the sound and better definition at high frequencies.
I'd go so far as to say that this made more difference than the other mods but without another player to compare to its hard to say.

The encapsulated filter is actually a thick-film assembly made by filter specialists, Murata.

I understood that these thick-film filters are made to tighter tolerances than filters made from discrete components and required no adjustments so had assumed that they do not drift with age.

Question would be, replace with what and would it sound any better?

All suggestions greatfully accepted.

I opened some of those Muratas, they include op amps and smd filter caps.
Op amps seem to be ok, but smd filter caps ???

I tried different Muratas, they also sound not so good.

Some but not all passive filters sound better, also op amp filter with good film caps.

I can post a gic filter from Sony later.

Difference between DP1000 and DP2000?

hi,

i would like to know if there is a big difference between the DP1000 and DP2000. since i have the DP 2000 and the track indication dosn´t work. the player itself works fine. by the way, dose anyone have a service manual for the DP2000? or can i use the manual from the DP1000?

thanks in advance

What happens is that the tray loading motor belt stretches and then the magnetic clamp is not pulled off the spindle that the disc sits on.
If a disc is left in the player then this problem is only noticed when the tray is closed with no disc in at which point the draw refuses to open.
Just fitting a new belt completely fixed mine and that was nearly 3 years ago.
I still use this player occasionally now!
Still plays everything including cdr's and has never mistracked anything, not bad for 27 years of age, I love it!
