Question on activating digital attenuation on this dac chip

To those who are in the know, I'm useless with the digital side of things, this MF A3.24 converter I have circuits posted second one in these threads

musical-fidelity-a3.24 mods

has a PCM1738E dac chip which has the option of having the digital attenuation part of it activated, which works from
0 to -120db in .5db steps, is this complicated to get working or do I need a digital tech to do it for me?

It is made more difficult by the need to include the original functionality of the current microcontroller. You would have to somehow recreate the code of the original micro and then add the volume control function. You would need some one understands software and the configuration of the specific chips used by the A3.24.
