Default again on Philips CD 880

All available info on this player says it has TDA 1541 A S1. Mine, however, is equipped with a simple A. I got it second-hand. Close inspection revealed no doctoring with the DAC. "Factory error", exemption of the rule or state-of-the-art tweaking?
I wouldn't say I don't like the sound, though, but wanted to hear S1 as compared, for example, with Marantz CD-94 which is also in my collection.
Did anyone happen to get across a S1-less CD 880?
