Hi all,
first let me introduce me self with regard to the digital drive. Past year i've built (cloned) the dddac and played a bit with it. after all the fuss around here i just wanted to hear it.... So I took out my junk box, bought a couple of tda1543's and went ahead. It worked, and though ik liked it, it was different but not truly better then the (modded) cambridge cd4 on a 1305. Because i'd read about the 1541 whilst researcing the dddac, i bought some. Hence i had most components lying round and I started to build a 1541 based dac next. now remember these where both junkbox projects. The 1541 got a pass d1 stage for i/v / gain and buffering. Since i was short of an extra 8412 and the one i had was on the 1543 dac (solderded in) i mounted both dac's on a peace of wood gave em both psu's and started comparing. Now both dacs shared exactly the same signal (it was by now reclocked as per the dddac scheme and i just put the 1541 parallel to the 1543 for bck ws and sdata), and by using the preamp i clould compare. The 1541 was the winner. Hence I built the 1541 in to a chassis but without the reclocking. I want to try it again. So i started searching my junk box and this forum. Yet there i get lost, I can understand most of the concepts you guys are talking about but when i try to calculate such things it all turns in to chinese (no offense meant, just a manner of speach). Therefore here's what i wanna do. I've got a 11.2896 xo, psu, cs8412, tda1541 and some trannies from network cards (fb2022). alle other things are provided for. It's playing right now btw. first i'll set the 8412 to slave mode so bck and ws can be input. The xo will be used to provide them using a 4040 a la the dddac. Yet this time i plan to use the trannies in between the datalines and the provider (aka the4040), i got this idea from ecd's thread regarding the ultimate 1541 nos dac. I want to do dem relocking as well, hence i'm going to use a second 4040 and trannie for that. Would there be any benefit in buffering (ie something like a 14517) the signals and sdata along with that? Could anybody provide me with a schematic of how to do this? I don't trust meself! Besides this im going to use one of the tannies to implement Gtent's solution of a 75ohms impedance spdif connection. In this realm i'm willing to do something as well as in am ready to slave the transport. However the transport runs at 384 fs. i've got a vcxo that could be used 16.... mhz) but me scope only ranges to 10mhz. Is there something foolproof? This will then be the next junkbox projext btw. regards Joris |
