marantz cd 17

[whats gan on]

hi i have just come a cross a marantz cd 17 it plays cdrs but some it will not ,it will read then disc then when you try to get it to go past track to it stops

hi there, try and get your self a dvd player, hook it up to your amp and bingo! you have music which will blow your socks off.

I have a CD17. Its palys all my CDR's. It wont , however play copy protected CD's or CDRW

It may be the laser is on the way out (Ive allready replaced the laser on mine)

A new laser is fairly cheap. You can try to clean the old...
The Marantz is not happy with all types CD-R in my experience...

Hi

I suspect laser dirt or age. Clean first if no joy replace I guess.
This unit will not read CDRW but I never had any grief with CDR while I owned one though discs used were JVC/Traxdata/LG/Memorex/TDK/Mtsui (spelling) but never any real cheap suspect unbranded stuff.

I went quite far with this unit, it got stolen though, but after the mods the unit totally eclipsed the KI version of it, left it far behind.

Not sure if I posted detail here or on AA tweakers.

Here goes from memory:

Custom Toroid with xtrra winding for clock psu to replace original TXF
Trichord clock 2
Separate DC supply for clock
BYT53 Diodes on all PSUs
replace 2114 op amps with 2604
Replaced std caps with Oscon caps on all digital IC local supplies.
Main digital PSU 5V reg replaced with better spec T03 pack version
Elna Starget, Cerafine or Silmic on Analogue supplies, replaced Duorex DC block caps on output with either Cerafine or silmic but seem to recall preferring Cerafine.
Bitumen damping on top and bottom panels.

Not sure if there was anything else..... Probably better AC power cable.

Forgot to say, a new laser will also improve sonics over one that sort of works. And I do not mean because of no skipping, clearer, more focus, all the good stuff, really.....

i done this mod but i like the sound the player has with no opamps yes none the hdams do a fine job the sound goes down a notch try it let me know please if you like what you hear
