Original A9.8 input voltage modification

Hello,

I have an Original A9.8 CD player which is wired to accept 220V. I live in the US, where the input voltage is 110V, so to power the unit I use a step-up transformer. I love the unit, but for several reasons, I'd prefer to not have to rely on a power converter.

I'd like to modify the power supply of my CD player. Neither the tech support at Original (in China) or their American distributor have given much help. Apparently, the A9.8 isn't a US-release model, so it's considered "grey market" and doesn't qualify for support.

Anyway, I'd appreciate any help any of you can give. I don't have much electronics experience, so i took some pictures.. they might explain the situation better than I can:

This is the product info from the manufacturer's website:

...Thanks for any help you can provide!

Do you see a specs or label on the "black box "? If not open this box and usually the transformer winding has label. Normally it has 2 primary transformer winding and labelled as 2X 110Volts.

The main/input voltage (220V) are the 2 red wires and the 2 connectors with 1red + 1black are primary windings (0 - 110 V) .
These windings are connected in SERIES. If you have a Multimeter, measure the voltage across each connector (Black and red ) .. your meter should read 110Volts each connector.
Please confirm these voltages first before we proceed to the next step.

Note: Pls exercise extreem caution as these voltages are lethal

audioboy69, thanks for the reply. You've given more help than i've gotten from the manufacturer, distributor, and three "mod" companies combined.

Unfortunately, I am currently without the CD player. I took the pictures two days ago, and am now about 80 miles away. I may be able to get to it by next week.

However, I have looked inside the "black box" before. There are two toroidal transformers, both of which are unlabeled. Otherwise, I know that

the CDM12 transport needs a 9V power supply
the entire unit consumes 20V RMS
the unit is based on the Linn Ikemi (some say a "clone")
the main/input connector is labeled "220V/50hz"

If that's not enough information to proceed, may I contact you later?

thanks again,
jason
