Default wireless PC-> amplifier

I want to make a loseless wireless connection between my computer and amplfier.
I'm thinking about building in an USB soundcard inside the amplifier.
Are there some small usb transmitters/receivers to make the connection between the USB from my computer and USB soudcard inside the amplifier?

There are no wireless USB hubs on the market as of yet. Belkin will be releasing one this December based on Freescale’s Ultra-Wideband technology. For the money your better off buying a squeezebox or similar.

You can stuff coaxial S/PDIF over a wireless TV link, supposedly. That should be pretty accurate.

i'm impatiently waiting for the Belkin wireless hub too. It's already been delayed by 6 months.

An alternative I'm looking at -- there is a company called Opticis making very long optical 'stretch' USB cables, and I've read on other forums of good results with it for USB dacs. Info and prices

here

Solves ground loops and dirty PC PSUs, but doesn't really solve the cable mess.... so think I'll hang on for the Belkin to start shipping.

Thats a cool idea; I've never heard of those cables. They are pretty darn exspensive though. For the price of one 133ft cable you can have two Belkin wireless hubs when they come out.

yep, they are pricey. I was thinking of a 10 or 20 meter one at $189.

But the expected sales price of the Belkin hub is $129. Seems pretty reasonable to me, if the speed is as fast as they make it out to be.

I've always thought the Squeezebox is a fantastic invention -- gets the PC out of the living room for one. Never took the plunge though, mainly because I've something like 1,600 CD's ripped as lossless and navigating through them on the squeezebox screen would be a bit of a headache.

If it is for buying, it seem to be quite easy. In the case of building one you may have to do a lot of DSP programming. One way is to simply connect an usb dongle and decoding the information by using a powerful microcontroller and a DSP processor. Another complication here is writing the program to conert the system audio to the usb port. Seems a tedious task, any way...

to quote dangus..

It wouldn't take much to build a SPDIF to infrared converter, and an IR receiver, providing the amp had SPDIF input.

That would provide a digital link, but needs to be in the same room. The TV link converts the audio to TV format.

I could bodge you together a smallish PC with S/PDIF out, TV video out (for the on-screen display), and a wireless card for less than $190!

As an added bonus, you can use that PC as a music server for the rest of the house.
