I was curious as to what offers the best bang for the buck in terms of USB audio.
A few that met the "I can afford it" criterion: 1. The AW-D3 from audioworkshop. http://www.audioworkshop.com.hk/index_en.htm At 70$, it's the cheapest around. However, I've heard it's had some problems. 2. Scott Nixon DACkit. http://www.scott-nixon.com/dac.htm 130$ is not cheap! However, it's nice and small - and portability is a plus. 3. AudioDIYlab "201" DAC 85$ puts it in nearly the same category as the AW-D3 for price. However, the PCM2702 is just plain not as good. 4. HPDAC The cheapest of the lot, and the biggest pain in the **** to build. I'd likely screw it up. 5. PCM270x kit/DIY I'd like to try one of these, but I've yet to see one cheap! Thoughts, anyone? |
