Question Whistling noise from an Arcam delta 250 (cdm9 pro)

Hi, my arcam delta 250 transport is making some mechanical noise when playing - a kind of high frequency whistling noise. Its not loud but it can be heard at my typical listening levels. I think it has allways made some noise (bought second hand) - maybe its now worse or i am less tolerant as it's now closer to my ear Seems to work OK anyway but the noise is annoying ...

I did some research a while back and discovered it is fitted with the phillips CDM9-pro mechanics. Is this noise a sign of impending failure in the transport

thanks in advance, dave

Does the whistle ever 'change' in pitch or stop? Do you ever hear it get modulated (i.e. chatter), for example when doing a fast-forward?

Cheers

Hi.

The early CDM-12 mechanism suffered from a similar problem. A mod kit was available and later versions were slightly different. The mod was to the small metal disk in the centre of the clamping mechanism. A 5p coin glued to the disk solves this problem.

It may help. Worth a try ?

Andy
