I have read recently that Apogee converters are not so good as people think, and when compared with Mytek, this one sounds quite better.
Even more some people tells that the components used my Apogee are cheaper than Mytek ones , even than Apogee devices are more expensive. Do Mytek converters use IC to make the AD conversion? Would be expensive to build a single stereo AD the same as Mytek one, and with the same quality, and then better than some Apogee devices? A single device, without leds, just for high quality conversion, but at lower cost. |

I've modded the Mytek A/D converter. This company uses one of these:
http://www.highdeftapetransfers.com It uses an AKM A/D chip and a pretty good one. The problem is the op-amps and the power system. It is only 5V. No negative supply. Also the clock is a low-cost oscillator can. I also do battery supply for it when I mod it. One thing that should be learned is that the price of a component has little correlation with the way it sounds.....it has more do to with how many hands are out to make a profit from it (manufacturer, distributor, dealer etc..), the money spent on advertising and whether or not it is manufactured in volume. And the parts that make audio component sound good are quite expensive and sometimes in short supply. Many manufacturers avoid these because there is no second source and the small companies that fabricate them may fold etc.. Steve N. Empirical Audio

I hope I would can build my own AD conveter. Mytek is considered as a very good piece out there.
So, I´m guessing if I could build my own converter, even better than the Mytek, with better components. Is posible? Afordable? Can you guys give me some info? |

If you have to ask, then you probably can't.

Well, I have basic electronic knowledge. Would need documentacion and help. That´s supposed I could get here.
Maybe I cannot design mysefl a ADC, but I think I could build it, if someone gives me an orientation. Probably those devices like Mytek use IC, isn´t? |
