Turning CD Player into DAC

Is it possible to turn a CD player into a DAC?

If so, what would likely be involved? Would it be as simple as connecting the digital out from the source device up to an 'input' section of the CD player's DAC? Would additional circuitry be involved?

My Denon DCD-S10 has a receiver section built in.

Most other CD players will require all the receiver and support circuitry. Which model are you thinking of, and does it still work (playing CD's)?

I'm thinking of a Cambridge D-300.

I know the unit was designed with space to take a potential DAC upgrade (mine is unupgraded), so im hoping there might be some seperation between the dac and transport sections.

Hi Monroe,
It's always possible to access and process the signals. Whether it's worth the effort is the question.

Have a look at some of the DAC threads. You will need to build the receiver section and also a switch between data sources.

Some sort of Crystal 24 bit DAC; don't know exactly what. The machine is not with me right now; i will post more info when I've had an opportunity to take it apart. (It's not with me right now).
