Would additional circuitry be involved?
Yes.Depend on the original design.
Which model are you thinking of, and does it still work (playing CD's)?
I'm thinking of a Cambridge D-300.
I know the unit was designed with space to take a potential DAC upgrade (mine is unupgraded), so im hoping there might be some seperation between the dac and transport sections.

Some sort of Crystal 24 bit DAC; don't know exactly what. The machine is not with me right now; i will post more info when I've had an opportunity to take it apart. (It's not with me right now).
