Default Sound simulation software?

I guess this sorta fits into Digital..

It seems a few years ago I recall reading about some software that would emulate the sound of different amplifier circuits in software..
Something like Spice, but you could actually listen to the virtual circuit you've built up.

Does anybody remember this,or am I smoking the good stuff?
It seems like I read about it here on DIYaudio, but I don't recall exactly.
So far searches have come up empty.

There are a lot of guitar effects boxes that let you select among different "classic" guitar amps to play your guitar through. Check any music store for effects boxes and you'll find a bunch of them.

You can use SwCAD to simulate a circuit using a .wav file for input and writing to a .wav file for output. If you have a complex circuit and a long file for input it will take a looooong time to run the simulation.

Of course, with any of these, you'll always get the sound of the amplifier/circuit plus the sound of your amp that you're listening through...
