Onkyo DR-S2.0 DVD unit will not play DVD's

Hello Everyone,

I have this DVD player that acted weird after we put in my buddies European standard DVD movie disc. It choked and ever since then it will not play any DVD movies...not even factory American movie discs. What can I do to reset this thing. It plays audio cd's just fine. If I put in a brand new American movie DVD disc it says loading for about 20 seconds and then displays "disc error". I hope someone can help in this matter. Thanks.

Simple,play dvd on another player and it will confirm that onkyo has a problem.Probably laser is going out and may read audio cd (just an observation not proven) only compared with dvd format or the video section has fault ( not likely ) but check your rca connectors for video out- any break?Good luck.

check for spindle motor failure too.

We try the discs on another player and they work fine. How do I check if the spindle motor is bad?

So the laser can play audio discs and not DVD? That's weird. Let me know on the above questions.

Try to post the pictures of the transport and laser pick up unit.Need to take a lot at them before going further.
