Question Just a little doubt about this schematic (16F877)

Check out the PDF, I can't understand those thick lines, what they are, and how to connect it...

I'm talking about that line from pins 33, 34 and 35 that cross all the others connections on the right side of the PIC, and also goes to the right side of the ATAPI conector and there's the same thing in the LCD part too.

I know that it's newbie thing but...

Thanks !

Kind Regards,

Fernando

its the symbolic respresentation of a bus. Its cleaner to draw that then all the individual wires that make up the bus.

Hmmmm, but look at the bus link to the LCD. Should I wire it backwards?

Oh, how I didn't see it?? I was so happy because I've found this project that I was blind eheheheheh

This is a CDROM controller, to use any ordinary pc cdrom drive as audio cd player!

Kind Regards,

Fernando

Would be nice to have a look at that firmware!

May have a problem finding '877s, as Microchip is pushing the 18 line now.

Having come from the HC11 as well, one may find that working with the assy language of the PIC is a pain. Also its need to bank-switch as it pages through program and variable memory (these are treated separately - the PIC is a Harvard processor).

Having said these things, the PICs are fairly inexpensive and do have a fair amount of processing power (i.e. 5MIPs with a 20MHz crystal), so they have a good balance of price to performance to 'user friendliness' (or the lack of it) that makes them fairly popular...

Cheers

Clem

The 18 line isn't replacing the 16 line.. it's a really important branch of Microchip production. '877 is still available, "A" version too.

Nando ...you know a microcontroller is not a ready-to-use IC ..isn't it?

I feel you don't have any program code at all!

Let start a study session: buy a book about microcontrollers or download some tutorials and manuals you find in the web (there're so much!). Fun is guaranteed!

Well, I do hope the '877 stays in production - it's getting scarce here, at least in retail form.

Cheers!
