I'd never try this in real life, but my curiosity got the better of me after I read an article on remote sensors:
Let's say I want to control the volume of an audio amp over the internet. At one end would be the volume control unit itself, and at the other end would be the power amp (with all basic logic to encode and decode the volume settings included). ASSUMING that I have a valid internet conntection, and I knew the IP addresses at both ends, what components would I need to talk over the internet? |

To do things exactly as described, you'd need a micro controller connected to an Ethernet controller on the remote end. The micro controller would read the voltage across a pot and send the value to the amp end (via UDP or TCP) across a network. On the amp side, you'd need an Ethernet controller connected to a micro controller to receive the voltage and send it to a digital pot such as a PGA 2311PA.
A more flexible way to set this up is to use a web server on the amp end that would enable any connected browser to control the volume of the PGA 2311PA. Why not try this in real life? Sounds cool and it wouldn't be that hard. (K) |
