I wanted a remote control for my computer for when I'm watching movies when using the tv-out.
The remote from my Onkyo tx-l5 receiver has extra buttons for controlling a dvd player, which works by sending signals out a remote control output that is supposed to be connected to an Onkyo dvd player. The remote out is actually just a mono jack plug, I connected it to the scope and saw that it was a ttl signal on there of about 1 kHz. So I figured that it should work with winlirc, that normally uses an IR receiver as seen here. So I connected a jack plug to the serial port's dcd and gnd pins, started winlirc and it actually worked! Now I can pause and unpause a movie without using my mouse. There might be other receivers with remote out's that can be connected to the rs232 port. |
