Default improving new system

hello everyone i'm a newbie
Well i have just put together a system after 6 months of no music due to finances and now i am trying to wring the very best from it i can system consists of
marantz cd 5001 ose
mods include new mains lead and sound deadening the lid with dynamat
marantz pm7200
again new mains lead
b&w 603 s3 no mods as yet

can any one point me in the right direction to improving the kit i have?
i am considering re clocking the cd player and doing the power supply
as for the amp i have no idea wether this can be upgraded
and the speakers i will probably rewire with my speaker cable
i am using a dedicated mains spur and home made mains cables

Hi Taz, All your suggestions sound good so far. You.ve obviously done your research.
I envy your dedicated mains spur

I would check the bracing inside the speakers and possibly add a little more if needed and consider mounting the crossover externally in a dedicated box.

You will have a better idea of upgrade options on the amp once you've looked inside. The standard thing to do is change anything ordinary for something better i.e Black gate caps or similar. Check the volume pot and consider changing to at least an alps blue or maybe even a stepped atenuator. (You may have to sacrifice remote volume control depending on which way you go.) I'd recommend posting over at the solid state forum when you have a better idea of what you've got to work with. There are some real amplifier gurus over there who know more than me that's for sure.
